This series of films, produced for the London Handel Festival and The Open University, delves into the extraordinary life of George Frideric Handel in the city he called home. By exploring the key locations that shaped his music and legacy, the series reveals the vibrant world of one of history’s greatest composers.

Handel House: Join Deputy Director Claire Davies as she guides us through the very rooms where Handel composed some of his most iconic works. In this film, we uncover Handel’s daily life in his Brook Street residence, now preserved as a museum that vividly tells his story.

St George’s Hanover Square: Known as Handel’s parish church, St George’s Hanover Square played a central role in his spiritual and professional life. This film takes us inside the historic church, where Festival Director Samir Savant reflects on its significance and Handel’s connection to this sacred space.

The Foundling Museum: Katharine Hogg, Librarian of the Gerald Coke Handel Collection, introduces us to the remarkable archives housed at the Foundling Museum. Through rare manuscripts and records, this film explores Handel’s philanthropic contributions to the Foundling Hospital and his lasting impact on this pioneering institution.

Filmed at these three historic landmarks, the series blends on-location storytelling with insightful interviews. Through the expertise and passion of curators and the Festival Director, Handel’s legacy is brought to life, offering a fresh perspective on one of history’s greatest composers.
