This series of films for The Open University, shot within the historic Palace of Westminster, delves into the rich history of the palace’s murals. Featuring insightful interviews with curator Melissa Hamnet and historian Onyeka Nubia, the films explore the stories behind these extraordinary artworks.
Securing access to this iconic location required months of complex negotiations with various departments and 'houses' of Westminster. These efforts ultimately resulted in unprecedented permission to film areas and artworks that had never been documented before, including exclusive access to the House of Lords.
The final series comprises three 15-minute films, each focusing on a different era and area of the palace. Together, they examine the purpose and influence of the murals, the narratives they convey, and their role in shaping the concept of British identity.
